The RISE department at Texas Tech University hosts domestic violence awareness month on campus to promote education, awareness, and support.
Challenges
Crafting messaging around domestic violence that empowers survivors, educates students, and avoids sounding superficial is a nuanced challenge. In October, RISE sought to elevate their domestic violence awareness campaign with a fresh approach that would cut through the noise and resonate authentically with their audience.
The goal was to develop a campaign that balanced sensitivity with impact, creating designs and messaging that were both powerful and respectful. By rethinking the visual identity and communication strategy, I aimed to create materials that not only raised awareness but also fostered a deeper understanding and engagement among students.
Solutions
I spearheaded the creation of marketing collateral for a comprehensive campus-wide domestic violence awareness campaign. This included a diverse range of impactful materials, such as promotional T-shirts, stickers, enamel pins, and educational social media content.
Collaborating closely with Program Managers, I was instrumental in planning and executing events designed to support survivors and promote education. By emphasizing the far-reaching impact of domestic violence, I ensured that our messaging addressed not only romantic partners but also platonic roommates, broadening the campaign's relevance and impact.
By leveraging compelling visuals and strategic messaging tailored to our target audience, the revamped campaign effectively established RISE as a leader in impactful advocacy. The campaign focused on a house theme and conveyed the central message that one cannot always see what is happening behind closed doors. It underscored the idea that silence often hides violence, encouraging students to speak out if they observe something troubling. This approach made the conversation around domestic violence powerful, empowering, and actionable.
